South Korea
~ I’m obsessed with maps, so feel free to peak at my trip which includes hiking spots, accommodations, and the locations of my photos. ~
South Korea is the envy of the world these days. It has a forward-thinking economy, cool cultural ethos, and foodie foot print. I spent five weeks in Seoul with my girlfriend in the dead of winter, armed with a camera, in an open-ended attempt at discovering what exactly has made South Korea go from one of the world’s poorest nations to one of the wealthiest.
With frost forming at the chin, I walked miles down industrial alleys and through touristed temples. I took all too punctual buses and eerily quiet trains north to south. I drank soju in Gangnam and tried raw beef in Hapjeong. I don’t know if I found what I was looking for, but I had a hell of a good time along the way.
Pre-Trip Read: If you’re like me and wondering why this tiny country in Asia is seemingly popping up everywhere, then this book is a good start. From skin care to K-pop to movies, the world can’t get enough of this country.
Pre-Trip Watch: I watched this movie randomly on a Friday, and promptly watched it again the next day. It’s so interesting in how it blends multiple genres. If you love well-thought-out horror or thriller films, you will love this. It also combines a lot of Korean folk culture, which makes it a good watch before going.
