Prior to Thailand, I never left the U.S. in a meaningful way. I had been to Western Europe, Canada, and zig-zagged my way across the U.S. so that isn’t entirely true. But these trips were family getaways or short burst of escapism to places not all that different from the familiar. In Thailand my assumptions were challenged and my psychology tipped on an incline for the first time. I spent half of my five weeks in the country figuring out what to make of it and the other half attempting to photograph. I wished i’d done more of the latter, but sometimes it’s the act of seeing the world in a different light that makes all the difference.
